Scaling and Root Planing

Deep cleanings are the first step in treating periodontal disease. This procedure removes plaque and calculus from your teeth and gum line to prevent the spread of gum disease. It is carefully performed with hand-held tools and is completed routinely.

Medication

To destroy inflammation and infection, antibiotics and medicated oral rinses are prescribed.

Flap Procedure

Bone damage and periodontal disease can lie below the gum’s surface and reach the roots of teeth. By creating a small flap in the gums, Dr. Howard is able to clean the root of the tooth, repair damaged bone, and remove areas of advanced disease. Once cleaning is completed, the gums are stitched.

Laser Therapy

Minimally invasive, laser therapy destroys bacteria below the gum line. Recovery time is short and the procedure is less painful than other treatment options.
